the secondhand style magazine you've been waiting for is now in print!
issue 1 of @wornmagazine launches on the 27th of may
Hi darlings,
I owe you all an apology for my absence over the past few weeks, but I come bearing news that was well worth waiting for. After a year’s worth of researching, interviewing, styling, collaborating, photographing, editing, designing, and drawing, I’m beyond thrilled to announce that Issue 1 of Worn, a love letter to secondhand style, is complete. Better still, if you'd like to experience our debut issue in all its glory (yes, for free), Worn will be on display at The Lethaby Gallery, London, from the 28th of May to the 2nd of June 2025. No need to buy tickets — just waltz right in.
For those of you who are new here, Worn was conceived during my time at Saint Martins. As a vintage enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice that, although shopping secondhand had blossomed beyond its chaotic thrift shop roots, the media continued to depict it as a one-dimensional affair — wild, untamed, and a riot of clashing colours and patterns. While there’s nothing wrong with a little maximalism, over the years, vintage shopping has changed. It is now a multifaceted landscape where sourcing apps, rental services, curated vintage boutiques, resale sites, and swap shops play their part. Worn, then, was born out of a desire to celebrate secondhand fashion in all its contemporary, chic and covetable glory. The result is a sophisticated print publication (made with 100% recycled paper) that could easily pass for a glossy, but instead of convincing you to rush to H&M, it warms your heart with stories that might just bring a tear to your eye. We won’t bombard you with statistics or preachy messages, either — Worn is so enchanting, you’ll find yourself switching to secondhand regardless once you’ve read it.
Spanning 60 pages, the debut issue includes a witty A–Z of Secondhand Style and Sole Searching, a playful breakdown of what your vintage heels say about you. Later, Button It! acts as an illustrated guide to sewing on buttons, while The Long and Shortlist serves as an editor-approved address book composed of the best online vintage stores. Swap ‘Til You Drop spotlights swap shop Loved Again London, Fur Better or Worse dissects the secondhand fur revival, and Waste Not, Want Haute profiles upcycling virtuoso Larissa von Planta. For the sentimental soul, A Scarf is Born offers one of four love letters to the thrill of the hunt, while Second Time’s the Charm, an editorial in partnership with Rellik, immortalises their vintage treasures on the streets of Notting Hill — complete with expert tips from their co-founder Fiona Stuart on how to shop secondhand like a pro.
We will be continuing Worn and it will be published bi-annually. In the interim, do join us over on Instagram (@wornmagazine) and — in case you find yourselves missing us too terribly — stay with us here on Substack for weekly musings on secondhand style. As for how you can secure a copy of your own (or even contribute to Issue 2!), we will be unveiling all of the details on Instagram at the end of May. Do share the love with your friends too <3
